Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon cubed and seeds removed
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and halved
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemonade about 4-5 lemons, juiced
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup optional, adjust to taste
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Start by washing your strawberries thoroughly, then hull and halve them. For the watermelon, remove the rind and seeds, then cut it into cubes.
  • Squeeze the lemons to make about 1 cup of fresh lemonade. Strain the juice if you prefer a pulp-free drink.
  • In a high-speed blender, combine the watermelon cubes, strawberries, freshly squeezed lemonade, honey or agave syrup (if using), and ice cubes. Blend on high until smooth and slushy with no large ice chunks remaining. Add water or more lemonade if needed to adjust consistency.
  • Taste the slushie and add more sweetener or lemon juice as desired. Blend again briefly if adjustments are made.
  • Pour the slushie into tall glasses and garnish with fresh mint leaves or a wedge of lemon or strawberry. Serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Blender

Notes

Use ripe, in-season fruit for best flavor. Chill fruit before blending to keep slushie cold longer. Frozen fruit can be used to create a thicker texture, reducing the amount of ice. Adjust sweetness gradually. For variations, add fresh herbs, sparkling water, frozen yogurt, or even alcohol for an adult version. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerate the fruit mixture without ice for up to 24 hours.
