Ingredients

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz each, ensure no alcohol-based ingredients)
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground chicken/turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (choose a brand without non-permissible ingredients) or homemade taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream and salsa for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Open the cans of crescent roll dough and unroll each triangle but do not separate them. On a large round baking sheet, arrange the triangles in a circle with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the pointed ends facing outward to create your taco ring base.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add the diced onions and bell peppers, cooking until softened (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in the taco seasoning and water, simmering until the mixture thickens and the seasoning is well incorporated.
  • Spoon the cooked taco meat evenly over the wide ends of the crescent roll triangles in the center of the baking sheet. Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the meat. Fold the pointed ends of the crescent rolls over the filling, tucking the tips under the wide ends to seal the ring.
  • Place the assembled taco ring in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through. Keep an eye on it to avoid burning.
  • Remove the taco ring from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle with sliced black olives and chopped fresh cilantro if desired. Serve with sour cream and salsa on the side for dipping.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Large Round Baking Sheet

Notes

Use a non-stick baking sheet or line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Don’t overfill the crescent rolls to avoid tearing and leaking filling during baking. For extra melty cheese, mix cheddar and mozzarella as they complement each other perfectly. Add jalapeños or hot sauce to the meat mixture for a spicy kick if desired. Let the taco ring cool slightly before slicing to help it hold together better.
